In-Class Assignment 1
In my Copywiting course this semester, the goal is to learn the ins and outs of advertising, and how to write both radio and TV spots. Our first project's prompt was as follows:

            You have just been asked to interview as a copywriter for a local radio station.  As part of the interview, you are asked to write a sample piece of copy. Produce a 0:30 radio commercial that utilizes the following information:

Jones Ace Hardware

113 Center Street

Nanticoke, PA

Carries a complete line of ACE hardware products

Fall Clean-up Special

Rakes $5.99

Plastic Yard Bags - $3.99 box of 20 (30 Gal. bags)

Echo Gas Leaf Blower - $89.95

Process
To get started, I broke the information down into what went with what. I collected "Jones Ace Hardware" and "Carries a complete line of ACE hardware products" into one segment. The fact that they have a sale going on, and the items of their sale, also went together. The location information would go last. Once that was done, I wrote out a quick paragraph of how the information would flow, if it were dialogue:

            Jones' Ace Hardware carries the full ACE hardware line. Right now, we've got our Fall Clean-Up Sale going on. Echo Leaf Blowers are under $90, rakes under $6, and yard bags are at $4 per box. That's Jones' Ace Hardware, located at 113 Center Street in Nanticoke, PA. See you soon!

With that, I broke it down into script format.


Result
Considering it was my first experience with writing a proper script, I'm pretty happy with what the end result was.
