Out-Of-Class Assignment 5- Video Spot
Our last out-of-class assignment for my Copywriting course was scripting for a video spot production. We had to write for an 18-24 male and female demo, and otherwise, we had no restrictions. Whoever was deemed to have the best script would work with a team of students picked by the instructor and produce it.


Process
As part of a lecture before we got the assignment, our instructor showed us some examples of various kinds of video spots. I had, going into class, come up with a video spot for Amazon Prime, but was having trouble concepting for the video portion of the script. It was during the lecture that my mindset shifted, and I came up with a much simpler concept, both in terms of the overall idea as well as the actual production.

I came up with the idea for the spot I handed in, after several examples of spots that had no dialogue at all and were still effective. I decided to go with something I know well, which in this case was the transit authority and their buses where I live, as someone who doesn't drive. I decided to focus on the "broke student" demographic, and tout the bus system as a way to get around without the yearly costs of owning a car.

Once I had my script, I moved on to the other part of our assignment, storyboarding the script. I went into Poser Pro 2014, put it in silhouette display mode, and storyboarded in about 20 minutes. Once I had the silhouettes, I plugged them all into Photoshop, added some quick price tags made in Illustrator for those segments of the script, and submitted them.


Result
The project picked for production was mine, in part due to the incredible ease with which it would be to produce, with only two shots if we have very good timing. Due to the fact that it's gotten into abysmally cold weather, we'll likely be producing it in the spring, at which point I might try to sell the video to the transit authority.
