The Making of Huntress & Question

I drew out the base geometric wireframes of the painting using the Wacom Cintiq 15x with the round brush in Photoshop CS6.

Once I had the base of where everything was going to be set, I created a digital rough, setting up the form for everything. I also made the title with the pen tool and several strokes and drop shadows. I based the poses off of a photo I took of a cathedral.

I redid the entirety of The Question using a photo of myself as the base for the pose and perspective. I made the lineart for the whole piece with the round brush set to pen pressure control for opacity and flow. I also got Poser 8 around the time I finished The Question's pose, and used it to set up Huntress's pose shortly afterwards. I then added a bevel and emboss effect on the title.

Using the round brush, I added color to the whole piece.  I used masking, the lasso tool, and the gaussian blur filter to create the bloody footprints and sky. The pen tool was used to create the Riddler's marks.

I added texturing to the whole piece, adding my own stone texture photos to the ground and cathedral, and my metal textures to the crossbow and the Huntress's cape clips. I textured Huntress's boots, mask, and costume with the leather texture belonging to limited-vision-stock. I also used cadkittenstock's purple silk texture for Huntress's cape and The Question's tie. I then shaded using the lasso tool and the round brush with flow and opacity set to pen pressure control. Finally, I added rain with a soft brush and the gaussian blur filter.

Finally, I added more rain, as well as puddles with the gaussian and motion blur filters.  I added more shading to the pair, as well as making them appear wet. I changed the light source for the piece to the bolt of lightning striking past The Question.
