Project
For the first project in my Graphic Design 2 course, we had to design a mailer for an organization/cause of our choosing. After quite a bit of narrowing down, it came down to the EFF and a local Autism support organization named SAFE. Once I had these 2 choices, I went about creating different concepts between the two.
Concepts

My ideas for the EFF were far less involved than the di-cuts I came up with for SAFE. Of them all, I think the SAFE angel would have been the hands-down most interesting thing to get in the mail, but it would also mean a very tedious X-Acto session. In the end, I decided to go with the bird, which was almost as interesting a shape as the angel, while not being quite as bad.
Mailer
Since all of the concepts were made with Illustrator, my next step was plugging the shapes into InDesign for the actual layout design. Because of the shape of the bird, my first step was deciding what kind of information to include. Originally, I had a large amount of information, that flowed abysmally. I wanted to get the information to people, but the bird wouldn't necessarily work on its own.I made the decision, then, to include a second piece of collateral that would be able to contain the info. Using my previous concepts, I made a di-cut envelope in the shape of a puzzle piece, which would hold the bird as an ornament the person could keep.
